Yard signs are still some of the most effective and low-priced advertising tools. These signs typically contain the words For Sale, For Rent, or even Beware of Dogs. Also called lawn signs, they become ubiquitous during election seasons. In fact, local and even national elections would not have that All-American feel had it not been for the signs bearing the names and pictures of politicians. And guess what, the signs being put up by homeowners in their front yard actually work.
For years, lawn signs have been used in millions of households in the US as a means to announce the sale or lease of a property, to campaign for numerous political personalities, and to promote businesses. Aside from marketing purposes, signs are also effective in conveying messages, such as Beware of Dogs, Keep the Driveway Open, or No Entry. Countless of activists and organizations have also used these signs to show their sentiments or affiliations. So, isn’t it the right time that you should follow suit?
Marketing gurus will tell you that yard signs are in the same level as other guerrilla advertising tools that include call magnets, plastic signs, banners, and even tarpaulin billboards. To many people and home businesses, placing a yard sign can bring good results. In fact, apart from your own yard, you can also rent the lawns of your neighbors to promote your product or service. However, in order to get the most out of your lawn signs, you have to follow some rules in making them.
Believe it or not, there are rules involved if you want to make your signs really effective in your marketing. And the first rule is that your sign should be catchy enough to get the attention of the people in the neighborhood. You cant just get a piece of cardboard or plastic and then paint the message that you want the world to know. You have to plan the words, colors and even the size of your sign.
Next, you must choose the appropriate colors for your signs. Avoid using too many colors because that can make your signs confusing, if not turn them into total eyesores.
Lastly, when it comes to signs, size does matter. But just make sure that the size that you adhere to can still be practical for the front yard. Obviously, you cant put up a billboard-size sign on your lawn, or anyone’s yard for that matter.
